Earlier this week The Oatmeal published a very amusing and quite educational comic about Nikola Tesla (Никола Тесла) and also made quite a scathing attack on Edison.

Tesla was obviously a genius and was behind a lot of the technology we use today, including the AC electricity that powers so much of our everyday lives. The list of patents associated with Tesla is mind boggling!
One line from the Oatmeal comic really caught my attention:
Edison was not a geek; he was a CEO
In any other context that might not be such a bad thing, but in the context of the comic being a CEO is practically evil.
Is being a CEO that bad?
Is being a geek something that you should be proud of?

I think it’s just generalization. Is Richard Branson evil because he is a CEO? Or Tony Robbins?
Is someone who hacked 400 websites on a server a good person? Or someone who steals money from credit cards, bank accounts, spams, etc.
And what about geek CEO’s? One thing remains the same. Don’t pick on geeks in school, chances are you might end up working for one 🙂

I’d agree about generalisations in general, but I wouldn’t assume that a geek was a blackhat hacker .. That’s a bit of a leap!

I agree that was a stretch, I was trying to make a point. But I wouldn’t call a CEO every douche either…

Well there’s a big gap between “geek” and “hacker” (and even the term “hacker” is abused most of the time)
I’m probably a “geek”, but I wouldn’t be much of a “hacker” in any sense of the word.
