Klout has been around for the last couple of years and is probably best known for its “score”.

Using a number of different metrics it calculates each person’s overall “influence” across social networks and assigns a score from 0 to 100.

The higher your score the more influential you are.

And if you have a high score then you get to unlock “perks” from advertisers that want to reach influencers.

As of today, however, the service is beginning to compete with other social media content hubs, like Sprout Social etc.,

In an email to Klout users the company emphasised what a lot of people probably already knew:

the best way to make an impact online is to share great content

So the service now suggests content to you based on your topics of interest

The site’s sidebar has been replaced with 3 key calls to action:

Klout sidebar

Create new content, schedule it and then measure it.

And from what I’ve seen so far the content suggestions aren’t actually that bad. While I might not want to share the content they’re suggesting it’s not because it’s “bad”, but I’d like to play around with it a bit more before I start using it.

Of course you can still access all the old features, but the emphasis has obviously shifted more towards content curation, generation and measurement.

If you already have a Klout account simply login to see the new options.
