Independent Senator Feargal Quinn introduced a private members bill in Seanad Éireann last night “to regulate the use of drones having due regard for public safety, the privacy rights of individuals including rights of privacy attaching to the ownership of private property“.
The Irish Times reports that the bill would make it “an offence to fly a drone over another person’s home and bans the flight of drones within 200m of sport events, concerts and scenes of emergency”.
New Irish Aviation Authority regulations governing the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were introduced last month by a Statutory Instrument. Since December 21, all drones over 1kg must be registered with the IIA.
. @blacknight Completely, absolutely preposterous- a solution for which there is currently no known problem.
Much like the Seanad.

@blacknight Huh? Weren’t regs introduced last month?
@psneeze @blacknight yep Jim you’re correct.
@psneeze @blacknight I think Quinn is trying to regulate for below 154m which is private airspace above property

@adrianshanahan All covered by existing regs. He wants drones and users licenced and insured like cars and drivers. @blacknight
@psneeze @blacknight Aye I know that but he is trying to grab a headline following suggestions UAVs are used in burglarys
