Europe’s first Server Scrappage Scheme was officially launched last week at the Tech Trade show in Leopardstown, by CloudStrong in conjunction with Microsoft Ireland.

Cloudstrong provides cloud-based services to businesses, replacing traditional in-house infrastructure with cloud-hosted virtual servers and even desktops. They estimate that 27,000 servers in Ireland will be affected by the End of Support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14th 2015, giving organisations an opportunity to consider whether to upgrade those servers or migrate to the cloud. CloudStrong say they believe “the natural progression will be to a cloud solution, whether taking a public, private or hybrid approach.”

In order to encourage those considering the cloud option, Cloudstrong and their partner network in Ireland are offering an incentive in the form of a Server Scrappage Scheme. They won’t physically take your old hardware however, but they are offering a cash incentive of up to €6000 to make the transition to a cloud service.

Feedback from partners and end-users alike has been extremely positive, they report.  As CloudStrong is a channel-only distributor of cloud solutions, their network of IT service provider partners throughout Ireland and the UK will assist and assess the best alternative to ageing Windows 2003 Servers for each customer.
