Joan Mulvihill, CEO of Irish Internet Association [Podcast #18]

With a background in ecommerce, Joan feels strongly about helping IIA members do business online. What’s more, this year’s annual conference is going to encourage them to export, with a strong focus on the emerging markets of the BRICS countries. There are also opportunities closer to home, especially with the London Olympics at hand. Hats off to MaxRoam for targeting this opportunity with the recent launch of their UK MVNO and partnership with Easyjet.

We talk about the intimate nature of the Irish internet community and the opportunity this gives, not just for networking, but to participate in developing ideas and policy for the community as a whole. And we talk about advocacy and lobbying, particularly in the light of the recent copyright debate.

Also this week, Conn is afraid to upgrade his Mac OSX after years of Windows upgrades have left him a broken man. Michele says that’s just silly!

I loved this episode, I really liked the longer format, of closer to 45 minutes, rather than 1/2 hour. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Paul – and great credit is due to Joan, I think! Not sure we’ll always manage the 45 in future – but the trick is to keep going only as long as it’s interesting! :)
