Yesterday’s Apple product announcements are probably the least surprising there have ever been. The much anticipated iWatch turns out to be much more sensibly named as Apple Watch, and the iPhone 6 is bigger, better and comes in regular and ‘Plus’ sizes.
You wanted a big phone? You got two. iPhone 6 is 4.7 inches with 38% more pixels than the 4-inch iPhone 5S. It’s only slightly smaller than the HTC One (M8). iPhone 6Plus is a big fat phablet: 5.5 inches with 138% more pixels than the iPhone 5S.
Android fans have pointed out that these new phones are only now introducing features long-enjoyed by others. So what. You don’t have to be first to dominate a market, as Apple has amply demonstrated in the past.

Jason Calacanis says Apple have knocked it out of the park and are on track to become the worlds first Trillion Dollar Company. The watches alone, he says will add $100bn in market capitalisation:
Oh yeah, they got one made of gold and you know they will launch partnerships with brands like Gucci, Prada & Jay Z. Those will be blinged out in diamonds and precious metals and have $1k-5k in profit. They’ll sell a couple of million of those per year as well. And you’ll be able to replace the chips on the inside (a first for Apple), so you can feel fine about your 50-year investment in a watch that you’ll give your kids.
There’s lots more to talk about and we’ll be sure to return to it over the next few days here on Technology.ie as the news sinks in (and as we enjoy U2’s new album)
Downloaded the U2 album using iTunes on my PC, and I'm listening to it on my Android HTC One. ;)
So far so good!
