Actor Peter Mayhew played Chewbacca in the original Star Wars movies.  He also took pictures – about 1200 pictures in fact!  And he’s caused something of a stir on the internet in the last few days as he’s been tweeting some of them.

Mayhew’s pictures reveal the fun had by cast and crew as the worked to create the scenes which have inspired and influenced generations.  It’s obvious that Peter is as much a fan as any of us!

There are lots of shots of Peter, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher clowning around behind the scenes, along with George Lucas and many of the special effects experts.  Peter admits to being a real fan of their work and shows us some of the secrets of the production, including the fact that Chewbacca’s feet were too big to fit in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon!

And there’s a lovely picture of Carrie Fisher with an 11-year old Warwick Davis.   Warwick went on to be the star of Willow, and recently played the goblin Griphook in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  But he got his start as a child, playing Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi.
