Tourism agency Fáilte Ireland was quick of the mark to celebrate the referendum result with this promotional video declaring: ‘Ireland says YES to love!’.
In particular it’s promoting The Outing, which builds on the old tradition of September matchmaking in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, to bring you Ireland’s first LGBT Matchmaking and Music Festival – complete with the services of traditional matchmaker Willie Daly.
In a post on Ireland.com, the tourism agency suggests some venues for gay weddings in Ireland, and links to a list of resources on gayweddingsireland.ie.
While Friday’s referendum result amends the constitution to state that marriage is open gay people, current Oireachtas legislation defines it as between a man and a woman. The government has promised to change that legislation this summer, which could mean that gay marriages would be possible in time for Lisdoonvarna festival in October.
