Audio-Technica ATH-A500

Earier this week Conn and I did a “dry run” of the new podcast we’re planning to run from here.

I’m glad we did this as a “dry run” as there are issues that need to be solved before we can “go live”.

To start with my audio isn’t stable. I’m using the Apple earbud headphones that have a microphone in the cable. While the quality is fine when the mic is pointing the right way it kept getting moved around, which impacted the audio.

The other problem is that, simply put, I talk too much. So I need to keep it shorter and more to the point.

I’m not sure if we’ll be able to use any of the audio we recorded, but it was a worthwhile exercise to see what issues we’d need to work out.

In order to resolve the audio issues Conn has sent me over a few recommended devices. While we might be recording some of the shows while I’m in our offices I’ll also be travelling quite a bit, so it’s important that any gear we use is portable enough to fit into my laptop bag and light enough that I don’t kill myself lugging it around :)

If we’re going to do a tech show then we ought to talk about the tech behind the show! I’ll put a post up here tonight with some more details about the technical challenge involved in setting you up with a suitably portable mobile podcasting rig.
