I got into a delightful chat the other morning with Holly. She’s the first line of Vodafone’s online chat support service, and she’s a bot.
Holly prefers the term ‘Automated Online Assistant’, and that’s fine with me. If the cartoon avatar doesn’t make it clear from the start, then Holly’s rather limited range of conversation topics is a dead giveaway.
Holly likes to stay on message:

But don’t push her too hard, or she’ll get upset and try to hand you off to a pesky human:
