And the people did rejoice as the Newlands Cross Flyover opened to traffic this morning.

There’s been significant traffic disruption over the past year as construction continued – but the project was completed ahead of schedule. Here’s a timelapse video of the entire project which a guy called Ross McCarthy compiled from Dublin traffic cams.

Meanwhile, a campaign has been launched by Labour Party TD Robert Dowds to have the new structure named in honour of crime journalist Veronica Guerin, who was murdered in her car while stopped in traffic at Newlands Cross in 1996.
