There’s still no official release date for the Apple Watch in Ireland, but some eager Irish gadget-fans have already pre-ordered from Apple UK, thanks to Parcel Motel’s UK Delivery Address service.

Orla Shiels, General Manager at Parcel Motel, explained how it works:

parcelmotel“Here at Parcel Motel we offer our customers a ‘UK Delivery Address’ service which allows our users to choose Nightline’s Belfast depot as their delivery point when buying from UK retailers. Their goods are then delivered to their local Parcel Motel terminal for the cost of a domestic delivery fee. One of the great things about the service is that it helps consumers in the Republic of Ireland to get their hands on the latest ground breaking technology long before it becomes available in the Irish market.  We know that many of our customers are getting excited about being of the first to sport the Apple Watch on their wrists and we’re looking forward to the reaction when the first watches arrive at Parcel Motel.  We were inundated in September with deliveries of the iPhone 6 and again in October with the Nexus 6, and we expect the Apple Watch to create even more of a stir as the Irish launch date has yet to be announced”

However there was some confusion initially as, within hours of placing their orders on Friday, customers in Ireland received a cancellation email from Apple UK.

As we no longer ship to freight forwarder addresses in Ireland, we have cancelled your order.

On Saturday, Apple UK changed their tune and phoned customers to tell them that their orders were restored. The calls explained that the cancellation had been an “inadvertent”, and occurred “as part of the order management process”.
